...web design for small businesses Google Toolbar...This is a very helpful tool. You can now search the web with Google from any web site, just enter yuor keywords in the search bar. You can enable the high lighter if you want to find a phrase on the current page. The voting buttons send your positive or negative opinion about the site to the google database. It does not influence the page rank a lot and it is still in the experimental phase.
One of the most useful feature is PageRank indicator. If it is gray, the web site is very new and it is not indexed by Google. The full white indicator is PageRank 0/10 and it means that the page is new for Google (or the is penalised). Higher PageRank 4 or 5 is reserved for popular pages, that are long time in the Google data base and have big number of high quality backward links. Getting rank 4 or 5 is big success for most small business web sites. PageRank 6 or higher is very hard to achive. There is a believe that the PageRank scale is exponential so moving from 4 to 5 is lot easier than from rank 5 to 6. Only very big sites with lot of content and good linking strategy have high RageRank. You can use 'Backward links' command to see what kind of pages have a link to the current web site. Google does not list all links, only those that are relevant. There is also a pop-up blocker. You can disable this option if you want to see the popups for some web sites.
Overall, Google Toolbar is great tool.
